We have been preoccupied with the following. . . OLIVER D HOPKINS and DREW J HOPKINS arrived August 15, 2011! Ollie weighed a whopping 3 pounds 11 ounces and Drew weighed in at 4 pounds 5 ounces. We may be falling into the "proud grandparents" category, for which we do not apologize! Also, meet LOGAN COUCH, their cousin. We were all laughing so hard it made Drew and Ollie cry! I wish I had a picture of Jacoby with the babies. He LOVES babies and wanted to see their toes :) Ollie and Drew were born on Jacoby's 3rd Birthday - thanks for sharing buddy!

OKAY...TRYING AGAIN

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-FAGqUpzkzfk/TiXOYpCqTOI/AAAAAAAAAE0/pgqroTRmqkY/s320/Kitchen.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5631133831825870050" />
Well, apparently in the pre-publishing window it shows some funky letters etc but when published it shows the picture? SAD day.

The pictures that I tried to put on here were from Cobh, Ireland. Apparently, Frankie and I are going to either retire there or go on a church mission there OR maybe both! It is beautiful and small and the last port the Titanic stopped at before it sunk :( Not so sure that would be a selling point for me. At any rate...

This week Jessie and David (well actually just Jessie) have an ultrasound to find out the babies gender. We have our thoughts on this, do you? Post what you think the twins will be and we will see who is psychic! Maybe whoever is right should get to name them? Of course I am just kidding about that. Place your bets before Thursday afternoon!

Check out the cute beginnings of the nursery on Jessie's blog.

By the way, just wondering who hijacked summer...snow on May 9...are you serious????

Much love.

Spring is coming, right?

After enjoying the morning in my pjs, painting toenails and fingernails while listening to General Conference, I decided updating our blog allowed me to continue my laziness a bit longer;)

First, thoughts on Conference...Elder Uchtdorf makes everything sound better with his accent, don't you agree? I laughed so hard when he was talking about texting and his concern that people were texting one another, "He has been talking for ten minutes and hasn't mentioned aviation yet!?"

Second, loved Elder Bednar's talk about line upon line. Worth a reread definitely.

Third, quote I wrote down immediately.... "Preach the gospel at all times and IF NECESSARY, use words." Think about it...LOVE IT!

Some of you may know that we have done a bit of work on our kitchen. This was caused by drawers not working and cupboards not closing. I will attempt to post a before and after pictures here, cross your fingers!

Uncross them, it didn't work. I tried to add them and when it "uploaded" them it put some big dog address thing instead of the pictures. You could not click on the address thing like a link either...Hmmm. Ideas welcome:)

At any rate! All of the kids except Cody will be making an appearance at home this month. Yes, that excites me! I will be able to see Cody when dropping Larkin off in Salt Lake:) Even Bella is coming!

I am trying to convince myself that motivation will automatically come back to me... I have a feeling the reality is that I will be working hard to find my old friend.

I am anxiously awaiting Frankie's return from London and Dublin and not just so I don't have to work (although that may be part of it).

I LOVE reading all of your blogs, please continue. The internal struggle to stay positive and to have a little faith bring calmness; however, it generally feels like the calm before the storm. This is a challenge I have worked on over the last 30 years, Frankie calls it being flexible;). Well for whatever reason there are many transitions right now AND they are exciting ones!

First, Frankie and I are frantically trying to get all the house projects done in preparation for being grandparents! I must admit that I have had a great example to follow so hopefully all will be well there. We are adjusting to the idea of twins, we were so happy with one and just shaking our head at two. (btw Jessie and David are the parents, little detail there).

Second, our kitchen is bare as in there is nothing in there. When most of the drawers do not function and doors do not close it is time to redo. We couldn't have come this far without BRAD, TANNER, and TAYLOR. THANK YOU!!!! I have got to meet new people who are so kind. I love when others are kind. Hopefully, the hard part for me is over! We will see. And if it is not, I will be flexible:)

Third, my beautiful nieces Katie and Savannah are getting married. Savannah in April and Katie in July. I know I have mentioned that being an aunt is my favorite "job." These two beauties are one reason why. . .I love them and have so many fond memories of them - they are a joy in my world.

Fourth, I have been working at the store a lot more. I say kudos to working moms! I can't do it. I feel frazzled much of the time and like I can't do many of the things I wish I could. Luckily I have a boss who understands this. I do like spending time with Frankie. I am hanging on for summer when school is out and others can work during the day:)

Fifth, Brittanie and children are coming to spend the night! So excited:). They live in Minnesota! Also, David, Jessie, and Bella are coming in April for savannah's wedding! And Bug is coming for a few days before Cody's brother's wedding at the end of April. Is anyone else coming?! We would love to have you!

Sixth, health concerns have reared their ugly head again in our extended family and this makes me . . .many things! I know all will be well but I wish these trials were not here.

Good for you for hanging in there and reading this lengthy post.

Much love!

Greetings!

We have been to Arizona and that is about it.

That is Frankie's blog post - a man of many words!

I would add many more things that might seem boring but truth be told, we have been way busier than that. We were able to be together as a family over New Year's week-end and that my friends was divine! I will be spending the next several days getting caught up and organized. I have made no resolutions and have not taken stock of my life yet this year... hmmm. Oh wait! I did commit to my dear friend, Kimmy, to be in the 1000 mile challenge. However, I plan on biking much of it ;)

Would you like to read something that will help you feel encouraged? I am going to try and add it here...if not, it will have it's own post!

I will also try and post pictures of many fun things we have been doing - really if you are reading this...you are one of my greatest treasures - thank you.

Much Love,

Tammi and Frankie (sort of, if one sentence counts)

Okay, for some reason I cannot post it here... you can go to my facebook OR try this link:

http://lds.org/ensign/2011/01/make-yours-a-great-life?lang=eng

IT'S A GOOD DAY

It snowed! Actually, it is still snowing. . . this picture is at 5:30pm. I wonder what tomorrow will bring? I did discover today our snow shovel is broke; I don't remember it being so last year...

Also, I have no scraper in my car but a magazine worked fine! I am not sure if Frankie has one so I will make a trip down to the store before it closes.

This snow is pretty wet and slushy and PRETTY!

The snow was not the best part of my day...I came home and found THESE TWO in my living room watching sports center. For those who don't know them, these would be David's buddies from high school. Brock Pond on the left and Jeff Hendrix on the right. I love these boys. They make me smile. How many boys this age would come see an old lady like me? I have many fond memories of baseball trips with David, Brock, and Jeff. Jeff is getting ready to leave in the morning for a couple of years. He will be serving a mission for our church in Atlanta, Georgia. They are lucky to have him and he will be a great asset to the communities he serves in. You can tell what a big personality he has by his expression! These two boys and David well words cannot express the fondness I feel for them. . . something about watching a baseball game with boys who really love the game...good times. Thanks for coming by guys... miss you Dave!

It's already OCTOBER?

I just wanted to post a thank you list and update you on my "bucket list" to stay busy and not miss the kids:)

I know it is hard to believe but I actually am making progress on the bucket list - although I am afraid I will not finish it before it is time to start all over again! For the most part it is wonderful to complete tasks that have been hanging over my head for years, yes years!

I STILL DO NOT HAVE A GATE! What is up with that? It has been since May 25th that we have tried to get it corrected. They did come and put another post in, but alas...they took the gate and now it is just wide open! Wait, I am going to go take a picture and post it! Doesn't this just scream, "Come on back and steal or vandalize whatever you want!" Okay, maybe I am exaggerating, but honestly! Frankie and I are getting a good laugh out of it because crying is just not an option.

My thankful list:

I ran into two of my neighbors today, Jana and Tamra, and they brightened my day. I feel so fortunate to have good neighbors. I know they care about me and my family as much as I do theirs. I am also so grateful for my kids having good neighbors - that helps ease the distance between us.

I am thankful that there really is such a thing as a free lunch! My good friend from high school, Lisa, won a free lunch for 25 people AND I made the cut! Woo!

On Friday morning I got to work with not one but TWO of my nieces at the store...may I just say how much I love them? They are awesome:) No, really, even if I weren't their aunt I would think so!

I realize my list would go on and on and on because I am now reflecting on the many many kindnesses shown to me in just the last week...thank you so much. Really, you make my life so much easier. Funny thing is that many of you don't read my blog or know that I am aware of the good things you are doing for me and my family, I am aware and grateful.

Much love to each of you.

Hello Arizona!

Lucky me got to go on a week-end trip to see David, Jessie, and Bella AND this cute kid! Yes, he is saying "Nooooooooooo" to his mommy;)

Let me back up, first in SLC before my flight left, I got to hook up with Jason and Ellory (sp?). I love that guy. My cousins are all amazing! I think my "cool" points tripled by just being in their presence. I flew into Phoenix pretty late on Friday night. Although Bella might look mellow on Jessie's lap in this picture:

She was pretty excited to see me. I wasn't sure if she would remember me...but she did! On Saturday we met up with these two for lunch at Paradise Bakery in Glendale.

Oh, there is that cute boy again! He keeps sneaking in my pictures!

Then we went to World Market which was pretty interesting. I could have spent a lot of time and money in there but we were on a mission! There was a dog that needed sod in her backyard. Off to Lowe's we went. Refer to Jessie and David's blog for the info on their WONDERFUL neighbor who did all the labor I thought I was going to be doing. I took one for the team and played with his little guy, Rylan, who is almost 2 years old. It was tough, but someone had to do it! Jessie and I raked the rocks for a short time (long enough for blisters because the gloves David got out for me didn't make it onto my hands). Here are some before and after pictures:

Rumor on the street is that Jon and David have now put a brick border around the lawn, leveled out the rock around the edge, AND fixed the gate which apparently was not hanging correctly...

On Sunday afternoon, we zipped over to check out another cousin's digs... so here you have another picture:

I must say it again, I LOVE MY COUSINS EACH AND EVERY ONE OF THEM! It was absolutely wonderful seeing Jordyn and meeting Ellis... what fun they are having because they choose to.

If you are still hanging tough and reading, here is a funny story for you as a reward! Now, if only I were a good storyteller... Frankie had decided to send a guitar down for David to play. Instead of shipping it and chancing damage or it getting lost, we decided I would carry it on. David's concern was someone would ask me to play it in the airport. Frankie had a feeling someone would ask me about it. Well, they were somewhat right. The case caused a fellow guitar player to approach me in the gate area. The conversation went something like this:

GP: So...do you mind me asking what vintage that guitar is?

Me: I don't mind. Actually, I am really not sure.

GP: The case makes me think it might be old.

Me: Well, to be honest, I have absolutely no idea. I do know it is a RED Rickenbacker!

GP: Really? (insert looking at the case as though he wished it would magically open)

Me: Would you like to see it? Maybe you would be able to tell what year it is?

GP: Really! That would be great!

I open the case while now two other young men stand up behind me so they can get a good look... that wasn't awkward at all!

GP: Oh wow. That is sweet. I would guess 1960s.

He continued to thank me four or five times. Come to find out it is a 1964. Too funny. Here is David with my delivery -

It was a great week-end! So relaxing and fun. Thanks to Jessie and David for everything they did to make it nice for me. Thanks to Missy for DRIVING ACROSS THE VALLEY! You did it!!! Thanks Jason and Jordyn for making time for me. A big thank you to Savannah for making this trip possible.

MUCH LOVE!

Because I know you care ;)

I need a break from cleaning the office...okay, really dejunking which is a LOT more work. Frankie has renamed it my bucket list. Let's be honest, it is the list designed to keep me from wallowing. I am going to try and accomplish several things or at least one item each day. The purpose of this list is to help me forget that the kids are all living far away; this is fine sort of. Knowing that all I ever wanted to be was a mom and that the kids really don't need mothering anymore is a bit shocking. Yes, I have had over 20 years to prepare for this transition but feel I was not very prepared. So what is on my bucket list you ask?

Garage: check into floor options, clean freezer, organize and clean

Laundry room: Organize and clean

Linen Closet: Organize and clean

Kitchen: Fix drawer, reconfigure shelf organizers, change fridge filter, paint under sink, window treatment, organize and clean, food storage

Den: Organize and clean, prepare filing cabinet, dust

Light fixtures to change: dining room, entryway, hallway, laundry room, upstairs bath

There is a list for each room in the house and the outside. Outside the list is this: GET THE FENCE GUYS BACK TO FIX THE GATE!!!!! The main thing inside is to DEJUNK! It is going pretty well. The kitchen was my starting point... the cupboards above the counters are done. Before anyone starts telling me to do something for myself, these are things for myself. I will also do other things but I find it is when I am home alone that it is easy for the blues to roll on in. So there you have it.

This post seems somewhat blah but really we are super duper excited for the munchkins! Isn't it great that they are courageous in moving forward with their lives? That is awesome. We will be planning on a midwest tour to Iowa and Michigan in the Spring and I believe Arizona is on the docket for January ;)

Are we there yet?

Frankie pointed out to me that "our" blog has not been updated in quite some time. However, he did not change that fact...hmmm. We have been on the go for the last few months and are still trying to catch up. I leave Monday for Iowa with Larkin. Larkin and I just went to Mesa and painted with Jessie. Frankie and David went to Copenhagen, Malmo, and London. Urpy made a stop for lunch with the girlies:) Tan Man is spending the night tonight. I love the following word: H O M E, especially when those I love are in it with me. I also am going to try and add a you tube video that brought a tear to my eye. Jeffery R Holland was president at BYU back in the day :)

What kind of mother am I?

The above home was purchased by David and Jessie on Monday. It is located in IOWA CITY, IOWA! They will be living in this home for the next 5 or so years while Cody works on his PhD. It is in a nice area and has a lot of closet space and sunshine...two requirements for them. They have lived in really nice apartments since they were married; although, both have been basement apartments. They will actually live above ground :)

Hence the question, after three trips to Iowa and two to Arizona encouraging the above moves...what kind of mother would help her children move so far away?????? Never mind answering, I already know: a mother who wants her children to be happy and progressing even if it is so far away. We love our children. They are truly the joy in our life. I really have to think about how good it is for them and push out the thoughts of how much I will miss all of them! Thank you to those who are watching out for them in the new areas they are moving.

Hoping for pictures...

I am going to try and post some pictures...are you all crossing your fingers and saying a little prayer for me? I learned some very interesting things while there...

1. It really does not matter where I am, Mexico or at home, I love having my kids with me the same.

2. You pay a price when you remember to put sunscreen on everyone EXCEPT yourself.

3. I am grateful to live somewhere that does not require armed security posts. Thank you to those who make this possible.

4. My children and spouses are so much braver than I am when it comes to eating different foods.

5. Joy comes from watching your children really enjoying being together.

6. My husband really does love me, even after all these years.

7. There is no place like home.

8. It does feel wonderful to be warm in March ;)

9. Stealing from my aunt Tina, There is nothing as valuable as a mother's hug.

10. Families really need to be together forever!

Much love to you all.

Time marches on...

How do you keep enthusiasm and progress in your life?

Veterans Day

Grandpa spoke to all the fifth graders at Rozie's school for Veterans Day. This pic is from the Giants game. It was an afternoon game, very low key, very interesting and fun. We got to see the stadium, Lincecum sp? pitch, Randy Johnson pitch, and some of our favorite players.

I guess that's it. I went and heard my grandpa speak for Veteran's Day. He was in World War II. Sometimes I get complacent about the blessings of living in America. I hope I don't anymore. I hope we all take time to thank those in the service of our country. I am hoping to post the video of his talk as soon as I figure out how.

Much love.

SAD WEEK FOR BUG!

Just realized that I made no mention of Larkin being sick with CROUP - yes she should have outgrown it by now. . . Frankie spent October taking care of me (flu), running the store, running the household, on and on... what a trooper! He is an excellent caregiver:)

May I just state here for all to read that I love Halloween! I love the kids dressing up and coming over. I actually had one beautiful ballerina bring me a beautiful bracelet! She is my buddy, Sophia. Riley came with her sweet little "thank you"! Then my cousin, Courtney, brought Kalli and Tarek. Kalli played her Halloween recital piece on the piano - it was awesome! Tarek and I were both scared by an older teenage girl scantily dressed as a vampire or something. . . Of course, it wouldn't be halloween without Bailey coming by and my sweetheart Izzy! Then our last trick or treater was an adorable lion, JACOBY! Can you say absolutely adorable. He was chatting up a storm. So stinking cute. . . truly should be against the law. Thanks to all who brought their kids over!

We were able to get back in touch with some dear friends the Gustafsons. Their little guy, Bridger, has successfully had a bone marrow transplant down in Texas. His mom has always been so fun to be around. She has a blog that chronicles their experiences. We are so happy for them and hope things continue going so well. They are a great example in so many ways - thanks!

May I say thank you to all of my cousins and nephews wives who blog? I am so glad to read about how you are - THANK YOU! Hope you are all loving the Fall. I need to learn how to put pictures on to spice things up! I will work on it.

Much love (really!)

There's no place like home. . .

What a crazy month! A few of the highlights for us:

For Larkin's graduation, I took her on a trip to the land of my forefathers: Indiana! It was so good to show her my old stomping grounds and to introduce her to family that I love! We flew into O'Hare and drove over to Indiana. We were able to stay with my cousin, Jill, and her family. What a great time! They were wonderful to stay with and we had so much fun. My cousin, Cara, put together a surprise party for my Grandma Luke's 90th birthday. She was surprised to say the least. It was wonderful to see my aunts, uncles, cousins, their kids, etc. There were some family members I hadn't seen in 20+ years. It was wonderful to be with people who love and miss my parents as much I do. Larkin had a wonderful time meeting people who thought she was wonderful instantaneously. After spending time in Indiana/Michigan, we spent a couple of days in Chicago. What a fun place to visit! We hit museums, shopping, a White Sox game, and the 95th floor of the Hancock Building. . .yes I am afraid of heights, but did it anyway! I believe there were promises of a visit out west by certain people:) On the way back, we were bumped to Minneapolis. Sad day, Mall of America called our name for a few hours! Larkin was so disappointed. . . not.

Frankie and I were able to make a trip down to Provo for Larkin's thesis defense. She officially passed! Then we were able to go down for graduation. The day before we were able to hook up with Urpy and Rob Rogers and their girls! We love their family. We hadn't seen them in way too long. It was a terrific bonus! What an amazing day to see Bugs achieve a masters degree in communication disorders. She did it! All her hard work paid off. We were thrilled for her and the progress she made over the last six years. Way to go Bug! She is now working in the Alpine School District as a speech pathologist.

I was able to go to Minneapolis and "help" Brittanie and Marcus Darrington with their third baby, Will! It was more like a vacation to play with two darling girls and their baby brother. Marc is a wonderful father - it was kind of weird to see him in that roll ;) They were a sweet family and so fun to be there!

Two days after I returned, Frankie went to Casper to drive his mom to Grand Junction, Colorado. Frankie's oldest brother retired and the HMO he was the CEO of had a big shindig. Frankie's brother, Rod, was able to fly in as well. He had such a good time. The scary part was that he was giving his mom computer tips - anyone who knows Frankie know that as a family, we never imagined him giving anyone help on the computer! Way to go Frankie!!!

While Frankie was gone and David worked, Jessie orchestrated their move into a new townhome. Man, talk about family stepping up big! Terry, Savannah, Roz, Brad, Tanner, Jackie, Mark, and Dan helped move. We did it all in one trip thanks to everyone's trucks and Terry's trailer! And of course, Camille watched Bella! Thanks to all.

Then to wrap it up our nephew, Travis, got married to Betsey! We love them both. The next day our cousin, Markell got married. We are excited for both couples. Needless to say, life has been incredibly busy with good things.

September. . .we hope is slower. . .and we hope to be home more. . .

Much Love.

And the beat goes on...

Sometimes do you feel like life is passing you by and somehow you are on the slow train and no matter how fast you try to move forward you are stuck in mud? My lists seems to dominate my time and they are increasing in length and difficulty. The things I really want to do go undone; part of the things that "have" to be done get done and the rest roll over to another list another day. . . BLAH! I wish I could scoop my kids up in my arms and transport us all back to when they were little and the hardest decision was what to make for dinner and making sure we played hard all day. . .

The moral of the story: Don't blog late at night when you are melancholy!

Where to begin. . .

The top ten reasons I don't want to write this post:

Trying to catch up is frustrating and ruthless with the month we just experienced!

I am not clever and you all are!

I would have to write pages to cover the great trip to Las Vegas, ie pool, hotel, midnight bowling, dance competitions, shopping, fun! fun! fun!

My nephew Taylor is now 16, that would age me greatly to write about all of my memories of good times with "Tay Tay". His mom and "meth head" sister were there, but he was not. He had waived his preliminary hearing. . . noone told us, so there we sat. While sitting there. . .

A nice looking young man was brought in for his preliminary hearing in handcuffs and leg shackles (?). His parents were sitting beside me. His mother was trying to maintain some type of composure. However, tears filled her eyes and quietly trickled down her face. I wanted to cry with her; such a sad looking face. I pondered that her tears were not because of her feelings, but because she loved her son so much. She recognized that his decisions had taken him down a path that would cause him problems. . .I wanted to reach out and hug her but realized that would probably be crossing MANY boundaries! When we were leaving we ran into the detective in the hall. . .

He showed us the picture (read mug shot) of another suspect they were trying to arrest today for the break in. It took my breath away. . .we knew him. Now I really felt like crying. He played babe ruth with David one year. I had tried to be a good friend to his mother and to him. His mother had surgery and we had helped with meals etc. He had been in the store shopping etc. I knew their family was dysfunctional and that this was the path of least resistance for him; however, I hoped. . . but the drugs, alcohol, and gangs were too much temptation. . .

So, today I am feeling pretty sad. Is it better to hope and be sad or accept and harden ourselves?

The good news: I LOVE MY CHILDREN! How grateful I am that they are safe and sound. Although, David is outside in the rain working at the airport tonight. . .He is working!

More good news: I love my husband for understanding my sadness today. I don't think I am allowed to go to court with him next time though.

Thanks for listening/reading if you made it this far.

Much love.

Two random thoughts!

I just realized that the previous post sounds like a command. . . it was really two separate thoughts. . . (This has been a public service announcement, we will now return to your regularly scheduled blog post).

So just wanted to give a shout out to LARKIN! She has turned in all of her thesis stuff and even collected and analyzed the forgotten data. Thank you, thank you to all who returned and read the extra sentences! Way to go, Idaho! I was pondering how she got to this point. She has really done it on her own. Although in junior high and high school, she would ask me to proof read papers and then be offended when I would offer suggestions. The kind of proof reading "don't tell me if there is a typo or misspelling or grammatical error." But to be totally honest she truly has blossomed into a confident, educated, compassionate, articulate, amazing, beautiful young woman. We love her more than she can possibly know. (Those of you who know me realize that I don't normally sing the praises of my children, but receiving a masters requires a nod from your folks)

Frankie has been in Casper visiting his mom and brothers/sister-in-laws. He comes home today and that is probably a good thing. This working stuff makes it hard to keep up at home. Plus, I miss him.

David and Jessie are on a cruise. I think today they are in Cayman, I bet the wind isn't blowing there :(

Life is good here, even the hard parts. Funny how you think when you get old like me, you will have it figured out. It is a myth. I learn more now than I have ever before, maybe I am more teachable? At any rate, gratitude is such an important lesson.

Much love.

SLACKER, for sure

I felt I needed to update our blog even though I have nothing specific to write about. I wish I could be witty etc. I so enjoy reading your blogs:)

We have had rain almost every day! It is wonderful for the grass and flowers. Maybe not so wonderful for being outside. Summer will come soon enough. The tulips are finally opening up. I love tulips in bloom; does anything scream spring quite like them? We love the fun of flowers popping up and seeing which ones do better each year depending on the weather etc. This year the winner so far is the berginia. They are pretty awesome. The lilacs do not even have buds on them yet.

I tried to type a story about forgetting where I parked in the POURING RAIN and thinking that someone had stolen my car. . . I am a little paranoid now since someone broke into the store last Sunday night/Monday early morning. Nobody stole the car, I was just having a senior moment, of course while getting totally drenched!

I am looking forward to going to SLC, Utah, this weekend for my cousin, Johnny's wedding to Cassie. It will be great fun! We love them both!!!! Then on the following weekend my cousin, Matt will get married and then two weeks later his brother Derek will be getting married. Yes, spring is in the air!

I want to give a shout out to my niece, Katelyn! I am thinking of you and are loving my pioneer niece!!!!

Much love to you all.

ps Don't worry I recognize this is quite possibly the lamest blog post ever.

HELP OUR BABY!!!!

Yes, I know that we haven't written since February and we blew right through March and most of April. You wonder what would cause me to write. . .here you go!

Our daughter, Larkin, is working diligently on obtaining her masters from BYU in Communication Disorders. She needs girls between 18-40 years old who have lived in Utah their entire life. It would require coming to the clinic on campus for about a half hour. PLEASE if you meet this criteria let me know or if you KNOW someone. . . That is shocking to me. Almost as shocking as Frankie without a beard. Yes, you heard me, the beard is no more. There is no facial hair on his face. I must admit that when he hugged me and then pulled away and his face rubbed my face it totally FREAKED me out! I am slowly getting used to it:) Hopefully he will too!

I am doing nothing so drastic as altering my appearance:) Oh wait, I did get new living room furniture after 16 years! It is comfortable and Frankie and I both like. That is a miracle.

I have also been trying some recipes from our good friends, the Darringtons, cookbook. They are all amazing cooks so we have loved everything we have tried!!!!

It was "warm" enough to walk outside three days last week. Bundled up for sure! It was great to be outside. I am still working on not singing out loud with my ipod. It is especially hard when "johnny and june" and other uptempo songs come on.

Jessie and David have been here for a few weeks and will be moving on to their own apartment in a couple of weeks. They are excited to have their own place with their own stuff! Jessie is working at the bank full time and David is at Sky West full time. They are getting ready for school here. Jessie just took the ACT.

Cody is getting ready to gear up for the construction to pick up. He finished a big project of creating and presenting an employee handbook for the company. He took the GMAT and is preparing for the LSAT. And last but not LEAST! Larkin passed her prospectus and is moving forward toward completing her masters in speech pathology/audiology! You go girl!

Okay, so I cheated by writing about the kids. WIRTHLIN just a couple of months ago. He is an apostle just like in the days of the Savior's time. He passed away last night, and I instantly thought of this talk . . .if you want to read the whole thing which contains hilarious stories, you can go to lds.org and click on general conference talks Saturday morning for October 2008. Here are a couple of my favorite thoughts from this talk:

The way we react to adversity can be a major factor in how happy and successful we can be in life.

I have learned a few things that have helped me through times of testing and trial. I would like to share them with you: . . .The first thing we can do is learn to LAUGH. . . .The second thing we can do is seek for the ETERNAL. . . The third thing we can do is undertand the principle of COMPENSATION. . .The fourth thing we can do is put our TRUST in our HEAVENLY FATHER and HIS SON.

I hope you will take time to read the stories that go along with his talk. It was a classic! Hope all is well with each and every one of you. We love Rob and his wife, Urpy (I mean Becky). They have three beautiful little girls who are 7,6,and 2. Rob is pretty cool if we do say so ourselves, not to brag about having a cool friend! So Rob wrote about the individual preferences the girls have to torture each other, commonly known as sibling rivalry. We all did it! You know the attitude; I can beat up my brother but don't you dare!

Rob and Urpy are responsible parents (how could you be cool if you weren't). Anyway, the response from the readers was scary! So to make you feel better or worse, we are going to share a couple of incidents at the expense of our children:) Sorry Bugs and Buddy.

Larkin in general was pretty good with David. However, she had a bad habit of flinging things. . . shoes, pencils, pens, whatever was handy. David has a really pretty scar right by his eye from a projectile thrown by his sibling. I do believe that was the last time she threw anything at him. However, she did launch a shoe that caused a lot of damage to a guitar (that was an expensive lesson for her). It SCARED her bad enough to cure her!

David lived to "torture" Larkin. He soon found that he could inflict pain and receive the laughter which occurs when she is in pain. He also had a bad habit of slamming doors. . .with or without fingers in them. So I had David put his hand in the door jam, and you guessed it! SLAMMED the door, not. But they both thought I was going to. . .and it SCARED him enough to not do it anymore. The same tactic worked to cure him of his biting. . .actually I think Larkin finally bit him back (without any punishment).

We guess the moral of the story is all kids have some form of pushing buttons on their siblings. However, for the record, Larkin and David were best friends. Yes, he still gives her "dead arms" and she laughs. Maybe she laughs because she knows that is the reaction he wants. . .

Simplify. . .

Last night my bedtime reading material (doesn't everyone read to unwind?) was the conference edition of the Ensign which came in the mail! Frankie had told me about Dieter Uchtdorf's message in the priesthood session and suggested I read it. He has never led me astray thus far so I dove right in!

I suppose the caption sums up his talk, "Every priesthood holder stands at a unique place and has an important task that only he can perform." This could be said of all, he was just speaking in a priesthood session. I really doubt sometimes my importance in the BIG picture. However, my small little contribution CAN only be done by me. I really do try to do what is right and be a help to those around me. Anyway. . .

I jumped right into a talk I remembered by L. Tom Perry, his caption, "In our search to obtain relief from the stresses of life, may we earnestly seek ways to simplify our lives." He talks about Thoreau's experiences at Walden Pond. Thoreau determined we need four basic things: food, shelter, clothing and fuel. Sometimes we complicate life, don't we? I am grateful for the blessings of these four items in my life. My favorite quote from this talk was William Bradford,

"In righteousness there is great simplicity.

In every case that confronts us in life

there is either a right way or a wrong way to proceed.

If we choose the right way, we are sustained in our actions

by the principles of righteousness, in the which there is power from the heavens.

If we choose the wrong way and act on that choice,

there is no such heavenly promise or power,

and we are along and are destined to fail."

Okay, I need all the help I can get, I hope that I choose mostly right ways. . .

Well, I have stalled as long as possible. I accidentally erased my quicken data and now must recreate some of it. . . AAGH! I am wondering if I must recreate it all. . .nope don't think so. Procrastination is my middle name, but alas I must begin. . .

TRIAL AND ERROR

I realize that I am going to learn many things about this blog by trial and error. . .as is true in life! Today I am trying out how to put a title on the blog. You are all so clever at coming up with catchy titles. . . props to you all!

Good news for the day: At 3:00am we received an automated call alerting us to a missing 8 year old girl. She left her house around 9:30 pm without shoes and it was cold last night. They found her walking down her street toward her house at 3:37 am! No details other than a little girl was found.

Let's see if the title worked!

So today at the store (yes I got to work with Frankie ALL day. . .it was my lucky day!), a lady called inquiring for her "brother" if he could exchange an insulated bib for the correct size. He did not have a receipt, mmm that is the first red flag! Did he remember how he paid, I can look up credit/debit card transactions? Nope, hmmm second red flag! What type and size is it? An R38 size 44x36 and he needs a 44x30. Hmmm third red flag. . .they don't make that size in this bib! Fourth red flag, I am sure those of you wear a 36" inseam in a pant would never mistakingly purchase a 30" inseam pant. . .it works both ways. The fifth red flag was that a man had already made a run at returning an identical size of bibs (but in a style that size is made in) last week!!! I smell a rat!!!!

Why does this bother me? Because his work purchased them and Frankie talked to them more than once about sizing, but they were macho and new much more than we possibly could. Consequently, there is a man in bibs which are 6" TOO long and quite honestly 2 sizes too big around! Maybe next time he will listen?

Much love!

I am not sure if I will be able to post this. . .so we'll keep it short and sweet. With the transition into "empty nesters" in full swing, I find myself reading my family members' blogs more often. So this is a shout out to all of you who entertain us with your witty stories and informative blogs! Well, I will leave you with one short story and then we will see if I can figure out the way to post this!

Picture a VERY excited 5 year old going to lunch (yes at Subway) for her birthday. She is surrounded by her mom, dad, 3 year old sister, and baby brother. Talking loudly she exclaims, "This is the best birthday lunch ever!" Every comment is made loud and for ALL to hear. She definitely wants all the attention. Then she softens her voices, looks up at her dad, and simply states, "The best birthday present ever is that my daddy loves my mommy." I did not make this story up. Yes, I did fight back the tears and thought what a good mommy and daddy she must have.

Much love!
